favorite DS boss: The Demon Prince (DS3). Like O&S, it's 2v1 in Phase 1 (with much more manageable aggro-juggling; one stays at long range while the other melee-attacks), Phase 2 changes depending on which of the two dies first, his telegraphs are beautifully animated and easy to read, and the lore of his fight is awesome (being the last living demon). The fight is a good challenge but never FEELS unfair like O&S did. He DOES feel a bit like Ganon from OoT; roll between his legs and hack at his tail. If you're good, go for the face.

27:56 For me, the worst part of DS is hands-down the narrow platforms and Dragonslayer Archers. In DS1, I would have picked the Centipede Demon as 2nd Worst Boss over Pinwheel. I feel like the real fight there is against the camera.

"A bow-only run would be interesting". I mean, I've done a Caestus-only run as my first run on Dark Souls Remastered. I've fisted all the bosses, even the last one of the DLC. That was a pain for that last one, but the journey and the conclusion was well worth the effort. I recommend it for any challenge-seeking individuals out here.

funny story about my vicar amelia experience: I was an experienced Souls player by this point, but i prefer the turtly strength/endurance type builds in general, so Bloodborne was a very serious challenge for me. Vicar Amelia is obviously a step up in difficulty, and I wasn't learning very quickly as I fought her over and over and over. Here's the funny part: I was doing this in the middle of the day with my mother and sister in the room. Naturally, I was getting frustrated, but it was nothing Dark Souls hadn't already prepared me for, and I probably had a couple more hours of retrying in me, but the intensity of the fight and my mounting frustration hit a point for my family when it was so upsetting they flat out wanted me to stop playing the game. It baffled me, as I felt hours from rage-quitting...

Kind of at the point where Dark Souls feels pretty overrated. Its mechanics are shallow and lack any depth of worth. People go on and on about the lore, largely because the game is designed in a way to provoke fanfiction, but the actual writing and presentation is so often barebones. It blew me away that Ben said they don't just give it to you in a text dump; as if he forgot the primary mode of the game's exposition isn't people sitting in one place telling you everything or you reading item descriptions. Don't get me wrong, it's still a fun game, but its been iterated upon so much that the original game fells sluggish and dated already.

I think the reason why people consider DS1 to be the best is because of the amazing world design and how almost every area is interconnected. After DS1 the games started getting more and more linear which is why people don’t like DS3 that much. Also the lore is so appraised because you have to actually go out of your way to find things out which is refreshing since games are so simple now in terms of storytelling

I used to think pinwheel was a meh boss. But to be fair, the reason people plow through him is because they fight him around anor londo are later. Aside from asylum demon, he can be the first boss you fight In the game. Hence why he's not too strong. I always now run through the catacombs and fight him for the rite of kindling. He's a bit more tough with a weapon that isn't upgraded and SL 20 or so.

My personal "a lot of work but may be fun" way to make bed of chaos not so shite: Same arena, same deal to begin with. Big tree mom in the middle, the way to the "heart" blocked, two balls outside, but some viny, burned arches left and right of the entrance to the heart. The fight starts, not much happens, angry tree be angry, swiping at you, but not really reaching and you can "explore" the area and see what's going on. Once you figure out that you have to destroy the balls and do so with the first the corresponding arch activates. Think DS 2 Hearth of Chaos dlc fight, red shimmer, lava spewing out, and out comes the first demon. All shown in the short cinematic, including showing that the door to the heart got weaker. Either a new designed demon that is "new born" for the fight, or reuse assets, Idk. It automatically knows where you are and is angry and coming for you. If you kill it shortly after another demon gets spawned. Half of the fire elemental is also active, just like it is now. But no floor shenanigans. You get to the second ball, destroy it, wabam. The heart is open. Two portals are active. Twice the demon fun. The fiery soul is in full force. Good luck getting to the heart. Enjoy. Maybe add a small gatekeeper at the entrance to the heart, like one of the fire breathing statues. Just to slow you down ever so much and make you work for it, not just run straight to the hearth once it's open.

9:45 Not instantly dying on the bed of chaos fight because 'git gud' sounds a good enough quick fix. However, it made me think about how the bed of chaos could have been the WHOLE area of Lost Izalith. Trying to go directly to the boss fight would make it nigh impossible, you would have to go around Izalith and find the roots of the bed of chaos and cut them up. Then have a egg-tree bossfight after the extra-exploration. It's not something really novel to the souls games, as Kalameet could be fought without an arrow shot in its knee, that last Seath the Scaleless fight, you had to fight that wolf in the forest to fight the four kings; in ds2, there was that king with the giant souls gimmick, and that crappy weak-to-windmill-damage medusa fight. So the results could be varied, and there might be plenty of other examples. But I still think it would be a neat idea, lore-wise.

I think Bed of Chaos isn't a concept that couldn't be salvaged. I don't think you'd even need to try that hard to figure out how to make her fight work without just turning her into a standard boss fight. When you really get down to it, Bed of Chaos is an obstacle course. A perilous sprint through a hostile area, where something is actively trying to get at you. When I picture in my head a proper good version of Bed of Chaos, I imagine something akin to Micolash, Host of the Nightmare in Bloodborne, just cranked up to eleven. Effectively acting as a second part of the stage, the whole thing would center around effectively an obstacle course through this behemoth tree, dashing through it's innards to kill it's cores, which grants you access closer to the center where you finally smite the main body. Along the way, you have the other Witches of Izalith giving you shit as both they and the terrain work against you to kill you. It might not make it amazing, but it would become something more than just another "Quick-roll behind, smack it in the ass" boss fight.

The Souls series is pretty old at this point, and the clunky movement makes me question whether or not the "difficult" bosses would be truly difficult if you could, say, move as quickly as the Bloodborne hunter. I'm going to go only for DS3 on this, and say that the Namless King is my personal favorite. He's tough, flashy, and there's no reason to fight this guy, other than.....honor? It's a duel between two badasses, and I think that's pretty cool.

This podcast is honestly what the actual show should be. I don't know why the actual show exists. I've been a fan of Yahtzee and Jack for years but the main Slightly Civil War show makes no sense to me, it's just 2 guys reading off a list of opinions from the internet. If I wanted to read obligatory opinions, I could do that on my own, and I've heard them anyway. I'd much rather hear a point being argued because it's actually something they believe. Their real opinions are almost never one thing or the other anyway, so in almost every case they're saying a bunch of stuff they only kind of believe but can't go deeper on the thought because of the show's silly format. Hearing 2 guys argue a point they agree on is always more interesting than 2 guys arguing separate points that neither really believes.

I'd say this is the main show, the "war" is an introduction to the topic, mostly for people that don't know any of the talking points and also to draw attention. They list common opinions on the topic and the main arguments they could find in a overly sarcastic or comic way, to later have an actual discussion. I like the format because it allows for serious topics in an inviting format, possibly getting some people to pick an interest in said topics. Personally, I barely watch the "war". I usually put both videos on a playlist and, after hearing the initial topic, I'll go make me a coffee or something to drink while watching the true show.

I would ammend Yahtzee's suggestion of a lower level of the Bed of Chaos by saying that the lower level should also be full of lava that slowly drains your health. This keeps it in-line with the rest of the level and encourages the use of the anti-lava ring, while also imposing a time challenge to get back out of the lower level before you die. It also fits thematically, because the Bed of Chaos could be seen as one of the sources of the lava (in addition to Ceaseless Discharge). I'm imagining a waterfall of lava coming out of the bottom of the Bed of Chaos and filling the floor, and demons rising up out of that lava whenever you fall to the lower level.

I don't really have any favorite boss fights in the first dark souls... the bosses themselves aren't nearly as difficult or memorable as the environments themselves in that game... I'd say that blighttown is probably my favorite "boss environment" in DS1...just my opinion though.

Dark Souls 3 was my first Dark Souls game and I very quickly latched onto greatswords and ultra greatswords. Once I got the Wolf Knight Greatsword it was the only weapon I used. That kind of playstyle carried through to all the other souls games, even Bloodborne with Ludwigs holy blade.

Haven't played through DS2 and not going to, but, to me, the final boss in the series is also the best one. Gael it is. Yet, I'd say finally entering the Kiln of the First Flame in DS1 and meeting Gwyn at the bottom is the most impactful moment for me. Mostly because I was already waist-deep in the lore (thanks Vaati!) before actually playing the game. Damn, what a beautiful two-game saga.

DS2, including the DLCs had some of the best boss fights in the series. It's just a shame about the game that you have to play in between them.

I killed Capra second try, and I threw the match first try, it's strange how different initial experiences can be. Other bosses kicked my arse that other people didn't have trouble with.

I started with DS3 so pretty much all the DS1 bosses seemed fairly weak and boring to me... I've yet to finish it though, only because I don't know exactly what I should do before I take journey 2 yet.

The other cool thing about the Gaping Dragon is that there is an enemy above the arena which buffs it, but you can kill them if you find them in the level.

The only game you can do a legit, bow only run on is DS2 (if you want variety) But I'm maining a dex toon on DS3 called Shooty Shootface. Happens to lay out thicc arrow damage, but not ideal for most encounters.

Bow builds in ds2 are ridiculously powerful I was so disappointed in bows in ds3, not because of how they play or the damage but because they put a cap on how many arrows you can hold at one time making it difficult if not impossible to clear an area with just a bow

Super nidpicky: It isn't clear if the witch really tried to rekindle the First Flame or if she wanted to simply create her own flame. It is something in the translation that makes it really hard to figure out which on it is. In one language it say this in the other something else.

I played BB first, then DS2, DS3, and finally DS1. BB is still my favorite for its story, design, and mashup of Victorian horror with Lovecraftian cosmic horror, but DS1 was undiminished by its age and gameplay after I had played its more modern descendants. It is timeless.
