I liked Harvest Moon. And that was the last farming sim I ever enjoyed.

Yahtzee can you play an interesting story game instead of well this, I have never played it and I can feel the boredom and Skinner boxes of the game while watching it.

I prefer Rune Factory, where you get all the farming of Harvest Moon, but then can take your in-game significant other into a monster filled dungeon, which you may or may not have grown on your farm, slay a demon and then tame a lesser dragon with some scrambled eggs you had in your pocket and make it do your farm work for you.

You know.....a futuristic farm sim, where everyone has forgotten how to farm, or where crops come from, where your farm LITERALLY gets up and slowly walks from town to town, and you have to spend the seasons between cities growing food to meet demand and collecting soil from where you pass by to expand your plot of land.....sounds like it might be fun.

all i got from that was: natsume dont understand the difference between alloys and minerals, and think small boxes without wheels are suitable forms of transport and yatzee doesn't wear underwear

Wouldn't it have been a much more fun time if you started out on a raft with some small plots, but you'd find an island and traded your crops for more raft parts, eventually building yourself out to an ark of farming with different decks for different farming needs? You move from island to island, finding different civilisations with different farming needs, etc. Would prefer that over rebuilding...

I truly do not understand the appeal of farming sims.

When a publisher steals the name of your game series and releases a "fake" game under it, and people then wonder why new Harvest Moon sucks... another year passes, another publisher is being evil, as is tradition...

The new Story of Seasons isn't much better to be honest, they're all trying to be Stardew Valley really hard.

"Rune Factory 4 : A fantasy harvest moon" got a switch release, since you seem to love the farming sims so much maybe give it a try, they are my favorite in the franchise.

I had a moment's realisation today. Yahtzee is probably the most consistently excellent content creator in the history of the Internet. I can't think of a single other creator I've followed since 2007 and the quality has never dipped in the slightest. Kudos to you sir.

It is great that the Harvest Moon series finally admits that it has always been in favor for the One World Government. It has always been obvious, but now they are honest about it.

Y'know how some people say stuff like "Zelda 2 is the WORST Zelda game, but that doesn't mean it's a BAD game." Well likewise, One World is the BEST "Harvest Moon" game, but... Like it's crazy to say after playing this one, but they clearly ARE learning...just at a very very slow pace. One World is dang near a masterpiece compared to Light of Hope and The Lost Valley.

I think when they came out with Harvest Moon save the Homeland is when the franchise started nose-diving , I mean they had a wonderful life which was awesome and another wonderful life but that's about it I mean besides the previous one which goes without saying we're a lot of fun and full of memories.

Well if you think this one sucks... it’s the best one in the series yet 👏 so thank your lucky stars for not playing those. I mean I played the first since I got it for 5€ and had nothing else to do so it’s better than nothing at least, just keep the bar buried underground and you won’t be disappointed with it going in expecting garbage since well... it runs and that’s at least something right? It’s not completely broken, just pretty much empty. Unless you like crop mutations that are extremely fiddly to make happen even with a guide.

I've only played two Harvest Moon games. The original on SNES and one on Gamecube with musical notes or something. I really liked the one on SNES but didn't care for the latter. I thought HM just died after that and was reincarnated as Stardew Valley.

To be completely fair, the developers of the newest Story of Seasons game have already come out and apologized for how bad it is. So both games are equally bad this time around.

I find it so odd how I enjoy Stardew Valley so much but never liked any of the Harvest Moon games. I remember playing the one for Gamecube years ago and really wanting to enjoy it, but I felt like the game was pushing me to go faster than I wanted. It forced me to marry at the end of 1 year and immediately have a child. So my tiny farm, barely able to afford to buy more seeds, now had fo feed and sustain a family of 3.

Yahtzee, just wanna say thanks for the hot tip about Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town at the end there. I had no idea the series even existed and I wound up picking it up today. I'm midway through spring and having a great time. :D

I really loved the Harvest Moon series as a kid, and I'm sad to see the franchise has gone to shit. I loved Stardew Valley as a spiritual successor, though, and Rune Factory 4 was ported to the Switch. It has all the same farming sim stuff and added an action RPG element.

I looked it up and apparently, bronze can actually occur naturally as an ore where copper and tin deposits are found, it's just rare to form.

My extra long pubes felt that.

Honestly, that kind of sounds like Dragon Quest Builders, which actually did that sort of concept pretty well. You start off as a generic Dragon Quest protagonist and have to bring together all the humans and fight the demon king, along the way re-teaching the humans about basic concepts of cooking, mining, and building. I think DQB works while this doesn't because of a few things: 1) There's only four different islands you go to 2) You have a central base of operations that you return to after each island 3) Once you teach the humans how to cook food on island 1, you don't have to do the same thing on island 2

So my idea on how to combine a farming sim with exploration start's with Yahtzee's idea about a world where everyone forgot about farming. It's in the future where all the work is done by machines so everyone spends their time doing what they want. Then the machines revolt against their masters and kick humans off the planet. So now the humans have to find a new planet to colonize and rebuild civilization. After finding one, they have to relearn farming all over again. You start with a small base and everyday you go out to the wilderness to collect samples. Gradually you build up better food, stronger people and domesticate wildlife so you can venture further and further.

I'm here to learn one thing: is there a reason I shouldn't just keep playing Stardew Valley
